Learning about the structure of giant resonances from their <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>γ</mml:mi></mml:math> decay

The direct $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ decays of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) and quadrupole (GQR) $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ to low-lying states are investigated by means a microscopic self-consistent model. model considers effects beyond linear response approximation. experimental $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-decay widths from GQR first ${3}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state well reproduced with Skyrme interaction SkP. strong sensitivity decay isospin involved is proven. By comparing between GDR ${2}_{1}^{+}$ ${3}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, much larger weight ${3}_{1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ component in wave function deduced, respect function. Thus, we have shown that unique probe functions, test ground for nuclear structure models.
